When people do not know the cause of an event, they will often make guesses or assumptions of what they think is the reason for what has happened. The following is some of the misinformation about the disease and is NOT the cause of CE or CLE. Cree Leukoencephlopathy and Cree Encephalitis are GENETIC diseases. A baby is born with it
- The disease happens because the mother and father have not been good parents. They have not looked after their baby properly.
Some parents of children with the disease have been told that it is their fault why the baby is sick. In fact, the parents of children with Cree Leukoencephlopathy are the most dedicated parents, caring for their children despite the baby crying for hours and giving constant care.
- The disease is caused by breast-feeding
Research has shown NO relationship between breast-feeding and the disease. Breast-feeding is by far the best and least expensive form of feeding for babies
- The disease is related to HIV and AIDS
Parents and children have been tested several times for HIV, and none have been found to carrying the HIV virus.
